Steve Pierce

... is a freelance musician, working in a wide variety of fields since leaving the Royal College of Music in 1975.

He studied clarinet with Wilfred Kealey, Colin Bradbury and Jack McCaw - bass clarinet with Stephen Trier - and spent his early career almost exclusively in the world of classical music.

Having always enjoyed playing the saxophone, he started his career as a 'doubler' in the late 70s, deputising in the original production of Evita (doubling on clarinet, bass clarinet and tenor sax).

Dividing his time between the classical and commercial worlds, he now plays all the clarinets from Eb to bass (plus Bb contrabass) and all the saxes from soprano down to bass saxophone. He took up the flute in the early 90s, studying with Sarah Newbold.
