Theatre

The theatre has formed a large part of Steve's career. From 1984 – 2002 he worked for the Royal Shakespeare Company at the Barbican Theatre, London and the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford. He toured many times with them throughout Europe, the USA and the Far East.  The 2002 tour of The Merchant of Venice (of which he was Musical Director at the Swan Theatre, Stratford) travelled to the USA, China, Malaysia and Japan as well as UK venues.

He has also worked for the New Shakespeare's Globe and a great many West End productions (Steve was the original clarinettist on Phantom of the Opera).

At the Royal National Theatre he played in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (bass saxophone, bass clarinet and clarinet) and Caroline, Or Change (clarinet, bass clarinet, alto sax and flute) which won the Evening Standard “Best Musical of the Year” award.

Recent projects include Imagine This (clarinet, soprano sax, flute) at the New London Theatre and Oliver at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane (clarinet, bass clarinet and flute).  Steve is at present playing in a short season for the RSC at the Hampstead Theatre playing in the World Premier of American Trade by Tarell Alvin McCraney, directed by Jamie Lloyd.
