Over the course of his career Steve has played for most of the UK orchestras including LSO under André Previn and Michael Tilson Thomas, RPO, Philharmonia, Royal Opera, ENO, Royal Ballet Sinfonia (with whom he has just recently recorded a new CD of 'English Light Classics' at Abbey Road) and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra under Sir Simon Rattle.

He was principal clarinet with Orchestra da Camera for twelve years and is still a member of the National Symphony Orchestra (with whom he recorded approximately 65 complete musicals for TER Records at EMI Abbey Road) and the London Concert Orchestra.

In 2009 Steve played in a series of concerts with the London Concert Orchestra Big Band called Cheek to Cheek, showcasing the stars of the popular TV show Strictly Come Dancing, Anton du Beke and Erin Baug. The 2010 series with them called Steppin' Out has just concluded. March 2010 sees the start of another concert series called We'll Meet Again, featuring music popular around the time of World War II, introduced by June Whitfield. The big band is also starting a series of concerts featuring the music of George Gershwin, and includes a projected tour of Germany in Feb 2011.
